Chapter 7. First sale

I looked at the ceiling of my room in confusion. I came back here with the first responders and told them that I was already okay. Although, in fact, it was bad. Or rather, there was no way I could have been okay. I took off my outer clothes and lowered my gaze. My stomach was beginning to look more like a washboard. Some sort of pigmented spots appeared on my skin.

– Shit.

It seemed absurd. Did I really have a year and a half to live? Even if I sold the skill book, I’d have to spend points on potions and a low level book. Besides, is it even possible to restore my life span this way? Even if it is possible, the commission would still reduce the number of points by 20 percent.

– It’s urgent to earn points.

Anyway, I couldn’t show up to my family right now or pass the Player’s Registration. I had to go back to my old state first.

– Okay, I have a year and a half,” I gritted my teeth.

It’s a good thing I didn’t use all my points, or I would have died right away in this old little town.

– Sell. I had to sell something to survive.

However, I had to consider the worst-case scenario right away.

– Earning points is not easy. If I manage to sell something, I’ll send the proceeds straight to my mother.

First I would borrow money and buy my mother a fishing boat, then I would get a new identity card and register with the Players’ Association. I’ll fight the monsters, sell the skill book, and get all the money back. It is true that the appearance of such an old Player will immediately become a topic of discussion, but what do I care?

A father who suffers from illness. A mother and sister who are suffering to earn money to cure him. These three should be happy. Except there was too little time. In the year and a half I had, I couldn’t raise my Trade level enough to buy that elixir. Even if I could raise my Merchant level, how could I earn points to buy it?

Even if I did register, I could hardly get help from the guild or a big deposit. The problem was my new age. If I did get a deposit, it would be a paltry amount. Besides, I doubt if the guild support would have been that strong. I only had a year and a half left, and besides, I couldn’t survive on my own. Besides, I couldn’t use points anymore. Besides, it was stupid to stay at the first level, because only on the middle level I could move freely in the territory, use various skills and be more or less strong player. And the chance to get items or skill books in combat was higher at medium levels.

If my father didn’t get better, my family would be in poverty again. In order to buy medicine that could help him and make my family happy again, I had to do well. But it was almost impossible to do that in a year and a half.

– How, then, could I increase my score?

I had no answer to that question. Despite the fact that I was preparing for the worst, I wanted to live. I wouldn’t want to die young.

– There was only one way I could do it. Use my special skill and earn points.

But I had nothing. And time was running out. After all, I had less than a year and a half left. My original plan had several points: become a High Level Player, trade and sell expensive items, and earn points. However, that plan failed.

– I had absolutely no idea what to sell.

Then I started looking for something in the room. I raked up everything I had: an old smartphone, a portable game console, a waterproof watch I used in the Army, and a few other things. I even found something I once used at university.

– I wondered if these could be sold.

These were all items that didn’t have any characteristics. Low level items that wouldn’t help during a battle with monsters.

– Maybe someone doesn’t know that.

It wasn’t torture to try. I picked up a game console. It was an old model that I had bought a long time ago.

– Now, where are the batteries? Oh, there they are.

First, I inserted new batteries. The screen lit up. I was happy to find a whole list of games, including fighting games.

– First, let’s see if it works well.

I played it for a while to check it out. The console still worked well.

– Would it work?

It was a low level item that didn’t help with hunting and wasn’t made from monster body parts, so I doubted it would work at the buy/sell window. This bothered me greatly, but there was no other option. When I finished testing the set-top box, I opened the buy-sell window. The window enlarged and a list of categories appeared. For starters, I canceled the sale of the rare Mastery Skill book. Fortunately, I wasn’t charged a penny for cancelling.

– Well, it’s worth a try.

[Would you like to register an item for sale?]

[Yes] [No]

Of course, I clicked yes.

[Move the item you wish to sell into this window]

[After the sale, you will be charged a commission of 20% of the total amount]

– Is this really possible?

I moved the game console to an empty box. At the same moment it evaporated, and a little icon with its image appeared in the window.

– It worked!

Despite my doubts, to my surprise, it was available for sale here.

[Assign a price.]

[Game console XXX (low level item)

[8GB of internal memory]

[9,876 modern games]

-Hmm… -I wondered about the value. If you published an ad like that on the Internet, you could get 20,000 to 30,000 won* for the console. But in war, all means are good.

(P.p.: $18 to $27.

– I have no other option.

On the one hand I should have put up its real value. On the other, if it’s not bought, I can change the price later. Besides, they don’t charge money for cancelling the sale either. After thinking for a while, I entered the cherished numbers in the “price” field.

[Price]: 99,999,999 points.

That’s ⅙ of the price of the rare Skill Book.

I have 1,157 days left. Of course, I’d like to see at least one person buy this old console within that time frame.

– Besides, it has about 10,000 games on it,” I tried to think positively.

Feeling crazy, I hit the “for sale” button.

– Maybe I was hitting the price.

[Your item has been successfully put up for sale]

– Whoo!

Fortunately, nothing bad happened. Then I started putting everything in the sale window that was in the room: an old phone, a CD player, cheap glasses, a waterproofed watch that could be recharged in the sun, and other things. Each item I decided to sell for 99,999,999 points. As a result, there were 10 items in the buy-sell window. Now all that was left to do was wait.

***

The queen of the underworld, Gwess Pitt, sat on an ornate throne and studied the items for sale. She boasted long legs, a narrow waist, lush breasts, and firm hips. She seemed to absorb all the beauty in the world. Her black hair fell in a waterfall over her shoulders. Anyone could drown in those dark eyes with just one look. In spite of her beautiful appearance, she was called a cruel killer, a deadly beauty, and a black-haired beast. She had a terrible reputation. Gwess Pitt was a real devil.

– Same items every day,” Gwess frowned.

The vendors had become so used to the rut that they sold weapons, skill books, potions, and other items for about the same price.

– Lowering the price until a buyer was found was how market economics worked.

Gwess Pitt clicked her tongue in resentment. However, she was not thinking of lowering the price of her Staff of the Devil (a legendary item). No, on the contrary, she thought the price was already ridiculous. Gwess Pitt glanced at the sale window, which seemed almost unchanged, and shifted her gaze to the unique items that could be purchased.

There were only three items that could be displayed in the unique items window. However, there was nothing special about them. Gwess already had all of these. Since she already had all the rare items, she went to the low level items tab.

– Oh!” she wondered. – I’d buy that one!

There were several items that had been added quite recently. There were countless dimensions in the universe. And in each dimension, there were many unique items. With her special skill, Gwess Pitt had been collecting different items from all over the universe for several thousand years. The room in her Castle set aside for this collection was already full. However, the object she had just seen was definitely unique. It was the first time the Queen had seen anything like it in several thousand years. They were newly registered Hyun Seong objects. They were what awakened a new wave of shopaholism in Gwess Pitt.

– Bought it!

There were 10 items in all, and they were all extremely cheap. Each was worth 99,999,999 points. It was an affordable price that wasn’t even over 100 million. Do rare items you see for the first time in your life cost that cheap? Now the premier shopaholic of the underworld had come to her senses. She pressed the “buy” button so fast that she didn’t even pay attention to whether they increased any characteristics or skills. Her hands were much faster than her eyes.

[Your registered item was purchased]

– М?

I was still worried about whether anyone would buy these items, so I was greatly surprised when I heard the cherished call.

– The state window!

I immediately opened the status window, then the buy-sell window.

[All of your registered items have been purchased. Would you like to be paid?]

[Yes] [No]

Of course I clicked YES.

[The total amount is 799,999,992 points, the commission is 199,999,998 ]

– That’s crazy! – I couldn’t believe my eyes.

Could it be that someone really wanted to buy this. Compared to the rare and very expensive items found in the buy-and-sell window, it was garbage. But in the end it was bought. At one point I got 799,999,992 points. I did a quick count of how much time I got. 9,259 days. 25 years.

– Yay, I’m saved,” large tears ran down my face. Immediately, I felt a change. My skin, which had previously had spots of pigmentation, began to transform as well. The wrinkles on my face weren’t gone, but at least they were significantly less. I looked at myself using an app on my smartphone. From the screen, a man who looked about 60 was looking at me.

– Incredibly, it worked.

The glasses were really a reflection of longevity. Now I had not a year and a half to spare, but a whole 26 years.

“Still not long enough.”

It wasn’t enough. I needed a lot more points to get back to my age. However, I wasn’t as nervous anymore.

– There was more to sell.

All the items were sold at lightning speed. The only question on my mind was, how? That wasn’t so important right now, though. For someone who had bought my stuff at such rapid speed, its value was probably not an issue.

– The lost points could be recovered.

No, I could get more points and get stronger than I was now.
