Chapter 43 – Second Cataclysm II

“I don’t have time to think!” – I thought to myself, and bought the Vampire Ball.

The battle was going to be serious, so for me maintaining my physical and magical strength was a priority right now. Yes, I was regenerating those resources with the vampire sword, but I was spending at least twice as much as I was accumulating.

I exchanged a few words with the assembled Players first. One part of my little squad stayed at the gate, the other went to help at Namyong Station. Again we rushed into the thick of things, which seemed to have no end in sight.

White scaly creatures, resembling a cross between a human and a lizard, swarmed this part of the city and quietly hunted humans. The players tried their best, but these lizards outnumbered them. Unsurprisingly, there were no dungeons near Namyong Station. But the Players who found themselves here did their best to protect the helpless citizens. But even their efforts failed to repel the uninvited guests, because their numbers were only growing by the minute.

One Player tried to chop the heads of lizards with an axe, but his efforts were in vain against the general background, the number of creatures did not decrease due to the arrival of new ones. And, importantly, the physical strength of the Players was decreasing because of the battle, especially the mages and healers.

– When will the reinforcements arrive? – shouted from the front line, swinging back and defending themselves from the lizards with axes and shields.

If this onslaught continues, the Players simply do not have enough strength to defend and protect civilians. Not only that, but they might also lose their lives. Yes, the Players have some level advantage, but there was no end in sight for the lizards.

Suddenly there was the sound of a projectile exploding, destroying a bunch of critters, and then a wall of fire formed near the spatial gate.

– Yay, reinforcements! – The defenders cheered loudly.

The other Players greeted the new arrivals with the same cheers. However, the reinforcements were not as numerous as they would have liked.

The situation at Namyeong Station was much worse than at Sincheon Station. It was chaotic! Even though I managed to block the spatial gate somehow, the number of lizards roaming around the city was too huge.

Even though it was a rare skill, my magic stats were above three hundred, and I didn’t spend it recklessly. But someone still managed to destroy my fire curtain. I turned toward the spatial gate and saw a lizard that was much bigger than the one we were dealing with now. No, it wasn’t just big. This lizard was armed differently, not like the others. His entire body was covered in armor, and he had an ornate helmet on his head. And I wouldn’t say his whole outfit looked ordinary.

“Now we have to deal with him as quickly as possible.

If we hesitate, an incalculable horde of scales will emerge from the gate again. I tried to concentrate and gather all my strength for a powerful attack on the lizard with the Fire Spear. But, to my surprise, the lizard repelled it with its shield.

“Is that the lizard boss?” – I thought, and threw myself into the fight, clutching the vampire sword tightly in my hands.

There was a metallic clang. The lizard’s sword and spear clashed together.

At first I thought he was very capable, since he could repel my attack, but that conclusion was, as it turned out, hasty. He was certainly superior to the other lizards, but he was certainly no match for me.

In less than a minute, the head of the lizard, which had emerged majestically from the spatial gate, rolled on the ground.

But as soon as I activated the Wall of Fire again, the exact same lizards that I’d just killed came pouring out of the spatial gate.

“So it wasn’t a boss, but a simple warrior…?”

I didn’t even think that could happen.

“Firestorm!” – I activated my skill.

A wave of fire swept across the battlefield, but all the lizards were almost as good as new. There were wounded, to be sure, but none dead. And it was all because of the cold that the lizards’ bodies exuded.

“So they’re resistant to fire, huh?”

The lizards hissed and tried to attack me. Well, of course they have resistance to fire… But that was where their advantages ended. Still, I outclassed the lizards. So I didn’t lose heart and, drawing my Vampire Sword, I threw myself headlong into the enemy.

At the same moment, the monsters pointed their icy spears in my direction. I tried to maneuver, but they still didn’t miss an opportunity to block my path and surround me.

Then I armed myself with a shield. But it wasn’t that easy either. My hand began to stiffen rather quickly from the cold. I tensed up and tried to use magic to get rid of the strange sensation.

“What?”

I glanced in the direction the ice spear had come from. I was greatly surprised to see one lizard with a horn in its forehead. It looked to me like it was at least twice the size of the others.

“Now that’s got to be the lizard boss…”

I quickly dealt with the warrior lizards blocking my path and moved on. The ice lance whistled through the air again. I’m sure this lizard was using a freezing skill.

“Fire shield!”

I activated the defensive skill. As you can guess, fire and ice are opposite elements to each other. And this way I was able to reduce the strength of the attack. I continued to use the fire shield, carefully expending magic. As soon as I got close to it, the thing opened its mouth and tried to hit me with its icy breath.

“He’s a drake? Then why is he using breath?”

I tried to channel more magical power into the shield, but I couldn’t resist the icy breath of the lizard boss. The cold was tearing at my body, and I could feel it turning to wood…

“Now is not the time to save magic!”

Without thinking long, I activated the Lightning Breath skill. My whole body was instantly covered in a blue glowing shield, and I felt my senses return to every cell in my body.

I threw off the shackles of Ice Breath at the same instant, and launched myself at the boss. There was a clang of steel, and our weapons clashed again, bringing us face to face.

But as soon as I got close to him, the other lizards began to surround us to help their boss. I think this monster was somewhere around level 200, and his subordinates no higher than level 150. Everywhere I looked, death was waiting for me on all sides.

“I must endure! If I fall, everything will end…”

Most of the Players on the battlefield at that moment were only level 100, so they were lucky that the lizard warriors rushed to the aid of their boss. But what if the king and his warriors had scattered to different sides? It wasn’t without a massacre. But that skill showed no signs of life. All because I was not on the verge of death. Yes, it looked very much like an emergency, but my opponent wasn’t doing anything that threatened my life. Even though the lizards outnumbered our modest squad, it was even to my advantage, since not without the help of the Vampire Sword and the Vampire Ball, I could restore my physical and magical strength through the blood of these creatures.

The lizard boss and his warriors were exhausted. And all my wounds were gradually healing. And the boss and his companions could not boast such healing abilities. As a result, those lizards went to the other side on their own. In addition, the boss had also reached his limit: all his movements slowed, his attack power weakened, his icy breath was no longer so icy.

“Soon you’ll be finished…”

I gathered my strength and swiftly attacked my opponent, resulting in new wounds on the lizard’s body. In the heat of the battle, I stripped the lizard of the right paw in which it held its spear. Truth be told, after all the warriors had laid to rest, the end of the battle was a foregone conclusion.

The lizard roared and began to gather his strength for one last attack.
