Level 1 Player (MT Novel) - Chapter 3
Chapter 3: Awakening (Part 2)
– Access depends on the level of the Player, doesn’t it? – I was frightened.
The price range for items of this class ranged from a few hundred million. If it weren’t for my special skill, I certainly couldn’t afford one. And the features were good, too – three of them, each one increasing the damage.
– How much are you worth? – I tried to find a price. – No seller, no price. How so?
Just as I opened my mouth, a new window popped up before my eyes:
[Players with low trade level cannot buy this item.]
– Trade Level? What is this? – I stared at the status window.
Next to the skill appeared the inscription “normal level.
– Where did that come from?
No sooner had I asked the question, the answer did not take long.
[To get a high level, you need to earn more than 10 billion points after awakening.]
[Number of points earned: 0]
– So the points I already have don’t count?
Right now I had 2 billion points, but I got them at Awakening. In other words, the system only recognized points earned or acquired.
I could look up information about an item, but I couldn’t buy it. To do that, I had to earn points and raise my level. The only problem was that I didn’t know how to earn them.
– Hmm… I would think about that later.
I set that question aside and decided to look at the other items.
[Elf King’s Bow (rare) blocked]
[Dwarf King’s Hammer (rare) blocked]
[Spear of the Fairy Queen (rare) blocked]
– Yeah, all the items are blocked…” I looked at the gray icons, and then one black one caught my attention. – What do we have here?
[Devil’s Staff (Legendary) Blocked]
– A legendary item? Do we have one of those?
As far as I knew, only Choi Sanwi had a rare item. This one is legendary. I didn’t even know it existed.
– Well, let’s see…
However, I couldn’t find any additional information about the item. So I decided to look at something else:
[Dragon Slayer (Legendary) Blocked]
Still the same situation. I could only see the name and type of the item, the rest of the information was unavailable. Only rare items could have a description, even if they were blocked, but legendary items only had the name. I continued to study the black icons, and then another one appeared. I couldn’t see the name or type of item. All I could see was an icon that barely showed the shape of a sword.
– Hmm, are there really items above legendary class?
And there were clearly differences from legendary items.
– So, I mean, if I level up, I can buy something like that? – If that’s really the case…
My heart in my chest thumped frantically. It wasn’t over yet. I could be the consummate Player.
Then I went back to the items whose information was available, but I had one more question:
– Is there anything else in here besides weapons?
I wondered if I could acquire what I needed to heal my father here. As I thought about it, the icons in the window changed at once. A list of categories appeared: weapons, armor, skill books, pendants, bracelets, potions, and more.
– Fine,” a smile lit up my face. – Okay, medicines, medicines…
I searched frantically for something appropriate. Finally, I found something that could help my father.
[Elixir (legendary) blocked]
I found what I needed, but I had no access to more information. Thanks to my abilities, I was able to understand the purpose of this drug based only on its name. It was capable of curing any ailment. If I could buy it… I would definitely cure my father. But there was one little problem. It was a legendary item. And I had the most ordinary level, and I couldn’t see the description.
– So, Hyun Seong, don’t be greedy. Right now it’s enough to know that there’s hope. Let’s start with what I can do.
I was so preoccupied that I didn’t even notice when I opened the trade window again. I ran my eyes over the categories one more time and decided to stop at the skill and characterization books. When I clicked on the tab, many shimmering books appeared in front of me. I clicked on the first one I saw.
[Skill Skill (Rare Book) ]
[Passive ability: reduces magic consumption by 10%].
– Wow! 10% is no joke.
Skills. You could get them immediately upon awakening and upon reaching a certain level. It sounded very simple. Except that if luck was not on your side, then, no matter how hard you tried, you would not get good skills. But, of course, that wasn’t all.
When you killed monsters, there was a chance to get a skill book. By using it, you could learn an ability. The only problem was that the books fell very rarely. But I could buy them.
– It was a gold mine…” My jaw dropped.
The price of the book was decent.

– I heard that for a book with simple skills like “strength” or “endurance,” one would have to pay tens of millions of won.
There were no restrictions on learning a skill from a book. For example, a healer or damager could learn the skills of a tank, and a tank could learn the abilities of a healer or damager. You could even learn normal skills that you didn’t get when you woke up. Active skills could not be used without magic.
However, passive skills were used automatically even if the Player had no magic. The advantage of passive skills was undeniable. A skill is a passive ability. Ordinary people didn’t need it, but Players obviously could use it.
– I can’t acquire it if it costs more than a billion,” his lips stretched into a smile. – It would be better if it cost a billion or less. Then I could pay off my debt, and my mother and sister would have a better life. Where’s the price…
[Seller: BKurako]
[Price: 599,999,999 points]
– No way,” I shuddered and cursed softly.
600 million points. That’s ⅓ of what I had.
– Holy crap!
It makes sense that such an expensive item was worth the appropriate price.
– I have no choice. I’ll have to buy it.
I roughly understood what the special skill of “trading” was all about. The name of the seller was listed here, after all. He was also a Player.
– Shall we begin?
By improving skills, you could earn points. And vice versa, using points to buy items or skill books. You could sell them to other players for real money and make a net profit.
– So, that’s an ability, right?
It was a fantastic skill. Once I realized what it was, I finally had hope.
Holding my phone in one hand, I opened the trade window and began perusing the skill books. I needed to find an item that was cheap here, but could be sold dearly for real money.
Of course, I shouldn’t have completely trusted the information on the forum, since so much of it had been posted by ordinary people for the sake of a joke. But I had no other way of knowing what I needed. Except that anything that was really worthwhile was also selling expensive here.
– Well, I would have to think about it.
I hadn’t given up hope of finding something useful, though I’d realized long ago that nothing was free in this world.
[Restore Magic (Rare Book) ]
[Passive ability: Increases magic regeneration speed by 10]
[Seller: Ji Jong Moo]
[Price: 599,999,999 points]
– A bit pricey for a passive ability.
Certainly skills and general items were inexpensive, but rare items were not. I could see a trend: passive skills related to physical strength were cheap, while those related to magic were expensive. I compared them to each other anyway. There were items and skill books with the same parameters, but the books were much more expensive. That was the situation everywhere. Even though a book might have a similar effect to a weapon or armor, for some reason it was always more expensive. This was the case both in the real world and in the buying and selling window.
– How can I choose if the weapon and armor have the same effect as the skill book? Why are skill books more expensive?
I racked my brains and it occurred to me.
– Oh, I might as well look at something from the other categories.
However, no matter how good the options were, a tank could only use something that increased strength and defense. It was the same situation with the Damager and the Healer. But skill books could be used by everyone. In addition, the tank and the healer could learn new skills without restriction. Passive skills could learn even ordinary people. I started searching the forum. And finally found the information I was interested in. In particular, I found out that rich people preferred passive tank skills. And there was only one reason: without any effort the body was getting stronger and healthier.
– Well, then, let’s splurge,” I pressed my lips together.
Millions of won didn’t spend on drugs, but on improving themselves. This was shocking news. I’d been hurting my health at a hard job to pay for my father’s hospital expenses. Now it wasn’t that big of a deal. If rich people were buying up books of tank skills, the case could burn out. I could buy them for points and sell them for more money. I opened the trade window again. Many of the rare items I saw in the characteristics window were simply not on the forum.
– A performance enhancing potion? Is that even possible?
