Level 1 Player (MT Novel) - Chapter 13
Chapter 13. The First Hunt (Part 1)
I can tell you that there’s nothing good about a low-level dungeon. Stones are very rare to get, and monster bodies here are, roughly speaking, useless. In the Horned Rabbit dungeon, despite being diligent in battles, earning two hundred thousand won was something impossible.
However, there were always a lot of people here. And there were only two reasons for that. One, there were low level monsters living here, so it was great practice for beginners. Second – in all dungeons, belonging to the state, there were security officers, just in case if a beginner doesn’t have enough guts to finish what he started.
Here the novice Player can safely try his skills without any risk to his life. If not here, then where else can you find the most ideal place to hunt? Speaking in game slang, this is “learning mode”. That’s why most of the newbies were looking for a low-level dungeon – to make money.
Also, Players who already have a credential can easily take out loans and loans from the bank. But I had no reason to worry about that, even taking into account the fact that I am a Level 1 Player. As they say, I don’t live for today.
After getting credit from the bank, I was immediately taken to a dungeon. If you’re a Player, do you think you can get up to a hundred million for nothing? And anyway, I could, and I also rented the necessary equipment. Of course, I was counting on being able to get it back if I used my Master’s skill.
– It would be nice to sell something else.
It frustrated me that the sale didn’t see any changes. If, like the first day, everything was buying up quickly, I could have already gained the right amount of points, risen to the necessary level, and finally bought the Elixir. But the electronics I put up for sale were going hard. Only two items were bought in three weeks. Compared to the first day, when the item was just added and bought immediately, it seemed like a trifle.
– Owning a hundred million, who would want to buy that? Unless, of course, it’s Gwess Pitt and Flower Sword…
I guess you could say those two were a pretty good investment in me. In fact, thanks to them I was able to regain my original number of points.
– They’re like angels!
Although, to be honest, I had already forgotten the period of my life when I thought these two were a gift from heaven. Of all the buyers, it was Gwess Pitt and Flower Sword that I was genuinely grateful. They didn’t just buy items-they set the course of the trade. I learned about VVIP customers because of two people.
– Compared to making a small profit, the big sales policy is better.
But I can only register ten items at a time. I was already okay with making a small profit as well, but I didn’t have that option. Even if I had, though, I would still stick with the big sales policy. It was more profitable to sell one item for a fabulous price than ten for pennies. And there was only one reason for all this. There was no competition in this niche because no one was adding electronics. Monopoly. Although there probably wasn’t such a word in those worlds at all.
I’m still thinking of sticking with that policy. Despite low sales, you could get a hundred million points per item. And if one buys electronics? Well, chargers and batteries sell automatically.
– About once every ten days something from consumables is sold, which isn’t bad either.
As the saying goes, a man’s shirt is a man’s shirt. And if I collect the necessary number of points, I can cure my father.
– Looking for tanks for the party! Don’t be shy, come on over!
– I’m looking for hitlers for the party! I’ll pay your dungeon entrance for you! This is your chance!
You could tell the dungeon entrance looked like a marketplace. But, as it was, the Horned Rabbit dungeon, though low level, was hard to call safe. Despite the small risk of being killed, breaking bones and losing a body part was common. It’s not uncommon to die suddenly. Of course, to be on the safe side it’s better to find a tanker with good defense skills or a hitler, whose main task is just to heal wounds.
– Yes, the only problem is that tanks and hitlers are rare.
You’re more likely to come across DDs among Players. In addition, tanks and hitters are very few in principle. Therefore, their participation is well paid.
– As for me, I could join, but it is not necessary.

I could be called a versatile Player, because I tried to combine the skills of a tank and a healer, as well as a Range-DD and Mile-DD. If I wanted to, I could join a pack in any role. But my goal for today was to hunt horned rabbits, and to pretend to hunt for the skill book I had previously acquired. Besides, if I were on the team, I wouldn’t care about the ownership issue at all.
– Yes, here it is,” I held out my Player ID.
The horn sounded: rush! It was the officer at the entrance scanned the barcode of the document.
The payment for the dungeon was delayed. When you enter a dungeon for the first time, the system read the bar-code from the document, and only then began the countdown of the time of the hunt.
– No other team members? Are you alone? – The officer asked me at the entrance to the dungeon, looking me over from head to toe.
– Yes, I am,” I answered briefly.
The man, who looked about forty or so, looked at me with sad eyes. He didn’t say anything, but I could see from his face that he was thinking about something.
“Surely in his eyes I must look like a madman if I decided to go into this dungeon alone.
It’s extremely rare to find single Players here, because monster hunting is definitely a team effort. Let’s just say that’s the standard. But not for me. If you’re unlucky, here you can, die or be injured and remain disabled for life. That’s why, first of all, you need to find a companion to help you in the hunt. After all, monsters are stronger than Players. In addition, sometimes they get together in groups. Even if you’re hunting monsters of your level, your group size should be between five and nine people. But that’s not about me, because I’m level 40-50 in terms of characteristics, while the zone is designed for levels 1-5. Even if you want to take a chance, you won’t succeed. And it’s not that dozens of monsters will gather in one pack at all. It could be compared to dogs gathering to attack a tiger.
The man didn’t even hold me back or talk me down, and just let me into the dungeon. Perhaps it was because he had faith in those in charge of guarding the Players.
“Well, at least once I have to try.
In any case, even if something happens, I must be rescued by the security officers, after which, of course, I will not repeat such reckless acts in the future. I did not pay much attention to this look and approached the dungeon. The entrance to this place was hermetically sealed and could only be reached through a small door located in the center. I have not the faintest idea what such a system was for, or how it was possible to destroy the dungeon in the first place. In any case, periodic sweeps of the monsters prevent them from appearing on the surface. And that’s exactly the reason why the government sends newcomers to low-level dungeons: first, it’s safe, and second, it’s monster sweeps.
I walked to the door and climbed inside.
– Ugh,” I exhaled heavily.
The new air was literally saturated with magic and permeated every cell of my body. But the dungeon was dark enough. The walls gave off a faint glow, but I couldn’t see anything around me.
– It looked a lot like a cave.
Although, as you know, all dungeons are different from each other. Somewhere it was as bright as daylight, and somewhere, on the contrary, you could poke your eyes out. Also, there were dungeons with swamps, and there were dungeons with forests.
The Horned Rabbit dungeon was more like a cave, for the ground was hard, dark and damp. The road was quite wide at the beginning, but then it began to branch off. If not for the torches near the entrance, kindly provided by the security staff, nothing would have been visible ten meters away.
– Well, here I am in the dungeon.
There were various pictures hanging near the entrance that showed Players fighting monsters. They had rather primitive weapons in the pictures, like shields, spears, and swords. They were also fighting a huge two-meter rabbit that only had one horn.
– It wasn’t a rabbit, it was some kind of predator,” I blurted out when I first saw what the monsters in the dungeon looked like.
This rabbit had a horn, but its claws and teeth looked sharpened like razors, so sharp that it would have no trouble ripping through human flesh and breaking all the bones. So I decided to observe the other Players first. A tank with superior skills pounced on the rabbit with insane speed. A deafening blow threw his body backwards. He was holding an expensive and superior shield, but his arms didn’t look good. With a scream he threw his shield aside-it was a mistake. Not that it’s weird. After all, this is the initial dungeon for Players of levels 1-5.
In fact, all of the Players in the dungeon were beginners, I would even say newly reborn beginners. Even though they had gone through three weeks of academy training, until recently they had been living the most ordinary life, going to school or working. So they just couldn’t do everything perfectly without making at least one mistake during the hunt. And this hunt was hard to call easy.
Another tank, with superior skill, distracted the monster at this point so that the hillers could heal their wounded comrade. After that, the healed tank picked up the shield again, and already the two of them rushed at the rabbit again, after which three more DDs joined the attack.
– That takes quite a bit of time.
I thought since this was a low level dungeon, it would be easy. But it wasn’t. After eight minutes of bloody battle, a group of guys got the upper hand. I shifted my gaze and looked at the other team. The situation was similar. Only these guys were able to put down a rabbit after only three minutes.
– And no one was reacting to that?
I looked at the safety officers. Some of them were reading comic books, some were just chatting. There were even some playing board games. None of them were reacting to what was going on.
– It looked like until the whole group was blown to hell, nobody would budge.
The security officers didn’t even care that the newcomers had broken bones and torn flesh. They just knew about it and didn’t do anything.
– Well, it was time for me to go deeper into the dungeon.
I am, after all, a Level 1 Player. Although I was actually already equal to somewhere around level 40-50 according to the stats.
– I think that’s enough.
After all, I could try to hunt horned rabbits by myself. After all, everyone makes mistakes.
– Stealth!
I activated the necessary skill. Confident of my victory, I still remained vigilant. As the skill was of a low level, its result was negligible, but in the pitch darkness I practically disappeared in it, and then I went deeper into the dungeon again. There were no more newcomers and no government-employed security officers.
